There are many activities to take part in out of doors in the city of Mumbai. Many of them are enjoyed solo, in groups, or when traveling with children. One of my favorite things to do in a new city is to just simply walk around and take in the sites, and the culture and the people, at that slow pace of a stroll in the park. Guided tours on buses are good options, as you will be exposed to many different places in a short amount of time, and most of those places are of historical or cultural significance. But a walk through the city will allow you to take in the small sites, the alleyways, the doorways and the lives of the people.
One walk that is great to take is along Marine Drive. This stretch, which is illuminated at night is also known as Queens Necklace, as the glitter and the sparkle of the lights are spectacular, but their reflections in the Arabian Sea are simply breathtaking. This walk will lead you past many of the luxurious hotels in Mumbai, as well was a few great restaurants, the Stadium and more than a few really great buildings done in the style of Art Deco architecture. For those wishing a walk, a time out on the roller blades, or a bike ride, this is one of the best places to go in the city, however it can become quite crowded.
Another famous spot, great for a day out with the children is the EsselWorld Theme Park. This is set near Gorai Beach and has been popular for many years with the tourists and the locals alike. There are many games and rides for the children to enjoy as well as a section titled Water Kingdom. The water park becomes extremely crowded in the summer time, as the people of the city attempt to find some relief from the heat. There are deals offered at the park on the weekends, and if you are willing to risk it, they offer special packages and discounts during their monsoon season. Both of these activities are fun, very different, but still outdoors in the beautiful city of Mumbai.
