The Incredible Museum in the Norwich Castle

The Incredible Museum in the Norwich Castle

When traveling throughout any city, town or village in the United Kingdom, travelers are exposed to vast amounts of history and heritage–political, cultural, and societal. It seem when one walks through these places, the history is written on the walls of the seemingly mundane buildings and in the cobblestones of the city streets. Many cities have a variety of museums and galleries, or historical heritage sites which offer not only hours of exploration and education, but a true look at what life was like for our ancestors throughout the thousands and thousand of years in the evolution of humanity as we know it today.

One such museum is located close to any Norwich hotel, in the center of town. The Norwich Castle exhibits in a variety of ways, it is a multi media museum as such. Should one wish to learn about the way of life of the Normans, there are computer programs, easy to navigate with touch screens and popular with the children as the animation sets make all the information, just a bit easier to understand. There is a dramatic set, much like a still life play, wherein in the center of a very large model of the Kings keep, one may peer in and the courtiers and the King Henry the First, celebrating the wearing of the crowned through a feast set at a large table, depicting his 1121 Christmas visit to the village of Norwich. Another such display depicts the way of life during the times when the castle was used for a prison, and all the walls of the display remain the original graffiti and wall writings of those that were kept in the prison.

And located deep within the depths of the castle dungeon, exists a hands-on exhibit. This illustrates figuratively and physically, the challenges and the strength necessary by the architects and the masons that built the castle. This is one of the many museums that is not only extremely interesting for those interested in the history of the village, but one that is perfect for the kids and will provide them with hours of fun, and a little education thrown in.
